D. A. Hurd Library welcomes volunteers with constructive and rewarding opportunities to support our Library, build closer relationships with our community members, and to enhance the Library’s ability to provide quality services to our community.
As a volunteer, we ask that you follow a few guidelines that reflect our mission to our users: As a representative of our library, treat patrons, staff, and community members with the utmost respect and courtesy. Individual library records and usage are considered privileged information and may not be discussed or shared with anyone other than the person concerned.
D. A. Hurd Library Mission Statement: To offer the resources and encouragement necessary to promote the joy of reading, increase awareness of the world, broaden cultural horizons, and foster life-long learning; to provide a comfortable and welcoming place for all members of the community.
The D. A. Hurd Library serves our community population of adults, students, and children ages 0 to 90+. Our role as a public library is to provide access to information and act with concern for individual privacy.

Please choose and maintain a consistent schedule so we can provide a meaningful volunteer experience. Please call the library if you are unable to meet your volunteer obligation.
Appropriate attire is requested. If you choose to wear loungewear, short shorts or other relaxed attire, please do not wear those items while you are representing the library as a volunteer.
While sitting at the circulation desk, personal use of the library computers is prohibited. Please do not check your personal email, social media accounts, play games, or chat online. Please leave the front desk area before socializing.
If you have special talents, skills, or interests, please let us know. It would be helpful in providing us with ideas on how to best utilize your volunteer time you re generously sharing with us.

If you have special talents, skills, or interests, please let us know. It would be helpful in providing us with ideas on how to best fill your volunteer time. For example, please share if you have web design skills, computer knowledge, musical ability, or an artistic flair.
Teen volunteers earning community service hours must sign in and out for each visit. Unrecorded volunteer hours will not count towards community service time.
